First HD Renders (dragovator)

During my discussion with a classmate we decided that the initial scale between the dragon and the excavator was not large enough. For my final design I scaled down the dragon to be smaller in comparison to the excavator. We thought that this would create better contrast between the mythical dragon and modern machinery. Dragons are typically portrayed as huge towering creatures, by making the dragon smaller it creates a visual question of why it is smaller than the excavator. My classmate said they enjoyed the narrative being explored between the dragon and excavator. They also suggested that when completing my rendering I use bold colours. I chose to use bright colours that compliment and contrast each other to create an eye catching object. I told my classmate I wanted the object to have the look of a children's toy and ground it in the modern world. After discussing some material options I decided on shiny and matte plastic paired with a wooden floor.

My created is connected to remix culture because I took two objects made by other creators on Thingyverse and combined them to convey my end goal. My object is a mashup of two contrasting entities, this creates an interesting visual narrative. I am very interested in fantasy so I took inspiration from that and integrated it with modern technology that I find fascinating. I believe that I was influenced by society and pop culture to create this piece because I grew up consuming high fantasy and being interested in construction machines. My creation plays heavily on juxtaposition because it relies on the contrast created by the opposing origins of the included objects. This project has displayed the way the remix culture is involved with all new creations and that every artist pulls from existing ideas.
